SAFE

Disasters know no boundaries. With increased urbanization and industrialization, the frequency of disasters also rises. It is said that no facility is entirely safe until all components within it are safe from all hazards. These hazards can be natural or man-made, posing potential threats to people within the facilities. The most common example to quote is the increasing fire incidents in various kinds of facilities. Hence ensuring the safety of facilities from these hazards is crucial.

To address this need, the web-based tool called SAFE for standardized assessment of facilities for emergencies was conceived. It is a comprehensive, standalone tool with four core modules designed to enhance facility safety and enable necessary actions. These modules are based on widely accepted methodologies such as rapid visual screening for hazard identification and WHO's strategic risk assessment methodology for risk analysis.

The tool equips public health and healthcare professionals to assess facilities and prepare for any emergencies arising from all kinds of hazards. Ultimately, the tool ensures the structural, non-structural, and functional efficacy of facilities, including hospitals which further enhances service quality and ensures continuity during emergency/ disasters.
